Monochromatic look: Check!

There's something so special of a monochromatic look. Maybe it's the posibility of turning a simple color scheme into something outré by mixing it just the right way, or the complexity of said word... but ever since we've been seeing the trend around, I have been fascinated... and still working hard on pronouncing the word correctly. Of course, adding a pop of bright colors and neons is also a sight worth seeing, but I believe that the ability to make something simple into something fashionable is what every style aficionado should aim for. The trick with a monochromatic outfit is in the details. Whether you decide to mix the textures, add an outstanding print, wear an eye-catching piece of jewelry... always have in mind that somehow something needs to be 'different.' If not, people will always find some sort of fruit, vegetable or cartoon to compare you to. You don't want to look like one of the smurfs so aim to find something in the outfit selection that removes the image from people's minds. And hey, if you do end up looking like a smurf, or a carrot, or even a tree log, embrace it, at least all eyes are on you!

Work Wear

Every once in a while, I wake up feeling like I actually work at an office that requires a business-like attire. This especially occurs after I realize  that pairing my Indian bib necklace with a collared blouse can lead to amazing results. Let's just say, I made my boss pretty happy that day.

Spring Preview

I've been spoiled with warm weather this winter and for those who believe complaining gets you nowhere, well now we know that might not be true. Well, the tables can turn this month but I am thinking that one more month of cold weather, regardless of snow or ice, will not be as bad as previous years. And yes, I might be getting a bit a head of myself thinking it will only be one more month, or that I can already wear clothes meant for springtime in the Northeast, but I can't help it if today I woke up more positive than usual. In any case, this skirt will be the perfect addition to my spring wardrobe... I am thinking a bright floral button-up, or maybe even a cute peplum.... rocking an Audrey-Hepburn-Roman-Holiday 50's style maybe? Guess we'll have to wait and see!

Downtown Chic

I spent all night catching up with Gossip Girl episodes and for some reason, every time I do this, I get an insane desire to waste all my money on clothes and accessories.... especially chunky jewelry. Thankful, I got migraine symptoms to keep me from actually maxing out my cards but oh man, I think you all might understand my feelings! Anyway, I felt dressing up downtown chic after waking up in GG mood and even though my surroundings are a bit far from downtown, I think you get the point!

Peaches and Creme- Part II

After a peachy and creme outfit, it seems weird to be following the same palette on my next post but I have to admit it has been a bit of a rough weekend/start of the week. Not rough as in bad... just rough as in, not much time or internet connection available. Good weekend though, lots of projects on the way! Today I woke up with zero inspiration, a bad hair day and excessive tiredness so hence, a very cash, comfy and relaxed outfit. Well, except for the heels I guess, oh, and the fact I kept tripping on the stairs every half hour! A pop of color is always necessary in a monochromatic ensemble so the teal just blended perfectly, especially for this season, and it was an easy pick in my closet. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)

Palazzo Pant afternoon

There's something so romantic about these pants and I don't mean because of the peach-blush color. The Katherine Hepburn and Greta Garbo feel just makes me think of black and white movies and the good days in  Hollywood. Not that I know what Hollywood is like right now but I just think that being an actress in that decade must've been a treat. Palazzo pants have been making a come back since last year and they will continue to be a powerful trend during Spring and Summer so it is definitely a good investment if you start getting yours now. I loved this particular color because it will easily transition into the Spring color palette, but I have seen some off-white and white ones on the runways that have stolen my heart.
Now, regardless of how beautiful these pants look, I do have to warn you about one detail. It might matter or it might not matter but I feel it is my duty as a palazzo-pant owner to tell you: when it comes to flattering your figure these are the wrong pants. So, depending on your intentions the day you will be wearing them do have that in mind. I mean, you might not be the first of your friends to get a free drink from a guy at the bar, but you might get extra points for not caring.

Get dressed, be happy!

Two days ago, a co-worker emailed me this insightful article titled: "En Harvard se Aprende a ser Feliz." For those of you who don't speak Spanish, this translates into "In Harvard you Learn to be Happy." The article's main focus is about a Harvard course that deals with the topic of happiness and garners the attention of thousands of students per semester, from all sorts of majors. The professor compares one's life to that of a business: We are happy when we have more postive things coming into our lives than negatives... when our balance statement is in blue (which in the US would be referred to as black) instead of red. For example, a person with a prolonged depression would be the same as a company that is by all means, broke! The article then goes into sharing with the readers 13 tips to improve the quality of your emotional state so that you can generate a positive livelihood and keep your balance statement in blue/black. I want to think that this share was purely coincidental and not trying to imply anything about my mood the last few days–what cold wouldn't bring you down– but when I saw tip #13, I knew where this was heading:


"Arréglate y siéntete atractivo(a)
El 41% de la gente dice que se sienten más felices cuando piensan que se ven bien. ¡Ponte guapo(a)!"


"Get dressed and feel attractive- 41% of people say they feel happier when they think they look good, so work for it! " 


 I am not one to disagree with this statement. I am a huge supporter of looking good in the outside to feel better in the inside, my mom calls me vain, I call her Carly Simon. So, today I made an effort to look good and spent an extra 20 mins on make up and hair- which you should know by now, I usually keep simple- and wah-la! Here's the result.
 I have to admit, I still have a cold but I am not dwelling on it any longer and this skirt is just one small proof that my balance statement is definitely on blue/black. Leave the red for some other time!

Yeti under the weather

A good morning would have started at 10 AM and without a congestion, hence today, was not a good day. It is not surprising that I would now get sick, considering everyone in the world is catching a cold and I am not a fan of missing out on what everyone is doing. That, and the fact that the weather has switched form 10 to 70 to 30 degrees in 5 days can do the trick. I did not wake up inspired but I knew I wanted to feel cozy and wear these new pair of earrings I got from jewelry designer/friend Tara Chial. These are earrings that require nothing major to stand out, and although they might be a tad overshadowed by my Yeti sweater, I think you all will be able to enjoy their beauty. Surely they'll glow more when Spring colors begin to populate the racks but for now, here is my "winter" take on it. Although, besides the sweater, nothing about this outfit is really winter-like. Hmm...just like the environment has chosen to ignore the season, so have I-- Now you know why I have a cold!

I am back in town and I am starting to think that everyone is on vacation except our office. So, in an act of rebellion, I decided to dress with whatever I chose. Even if it involved a neon shirt and retro jeans. My boss threatened me with a pink slip if I didn't dress more appropriately tomorrow but I think she was just playing a prank on me, giving the fact that Panamanian Aprils Fools' Day was today. I might dress up nice tomorrow though, or actually wear jeans and keep rebelling against the three people left in the embassy. I doubt that the office will be able to hold on without me... or would it?

Cozyness

Today was the first day I woke up feeling almost like myself. I am still not allowed to go to the gym because I could fall sick again or something like that, so I am really having a hard time figuring out what to do with the extra time. What do people do all night? Watch TV? Read? Blog? I guess I could use some spare time... it's just been so long since I've had one of those!! In any case, I felt like dressing up cozy today, making sure I was tightly sealed from cold air, so a maxi and an oversized knit was my first pick. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
